10 Very Surprising Leadership Lessons

(2022 Edition)

Note: This post is meant to be read as single, individual thoughts. “Bullet points” of ideas I’ve learned about leadership in 2022.

  1. Leading leaders is a LOT different than having employees or running a team.

  2. Growing an empire is a lot different than an online business.

  3. Making an *actual* positive difference requires more action than just ‘good intentions’.

  4. Having good intentions does not make you an effective or good leader.

  5. Being kind also doesn’t make someone “good”.

  6. Not everything you do needs to be “to make a difference” in the world.

  7. Enough to take care of you and your loved ones, is enough.

  8. It’s okay not to be— or not *want* to be— a billion-dollar empire. You don’t owe that anyone.

  9. We need different perspectives to stay in touch with reality.

  10. It’s okay to forge your own path, but make sure your closest friends are also on a different path than you so they can objectively see you from the outside, for checks and balances.
